La Unión 1890 is a family business with more than one hundred years of history, devoted to the production of high quality products derived from the Iberian pig.

The origins of La Unión 1890 date back to 1890 when José Martín Alférez created a small traditional business focused on the production of Iberian products in Écija, Seville, Spain.

The business was continued by his son Adolfo Martín González, who in the mid-50s created La Unión Chacinera, S.L., a trading company on which the brand is based. A new slaughterhouse was built during these years, improving our production capacity. We can say Adolfo was the person who took the plunge from the traditional and handmade production into the industrial production in facilities which were suitable for that purpose, but without losing the same traditional handmade philosophy and the good work learnt from his father José.

As years went over, the company was improving and increasing its volume and dimensions. In the 70s, Adolfo and José Luis Martín García —Adolfo’s sons— took over the company who, at the end of the 80s and due to the constant growth of the company, decided to go even further, assuming therefore the strategical decision of building new and modern facilities in the well-known north-western highlands of Andalusia, cradle of the best acorn-fed Iberian ham in the world.

In the new century, the fourth generation of the family has joined the corporate management who confronts the challenges of this new phase of expansion and internationalisation with professionalism, illusion and enthusiasm to continue with the work undertaken for more than one century by the family great-grandfather.abuela_canal.png
